football friday: week 13 (something usually goes here, right?)…!

so here we are in week 13.  i just did the wrap up for last week and as it turns out i kind of suck at picking football games.  this is to be expected as i don't watch much football.  i would if i could, but my job keeps me from it. in reality anything i know comes from listening to sports talk radio and flipping by espn.  i avoid any website or show that has weekly picks until after i make mine though.  don't want to be accused of cheating, not that i think anyone would.

with that said i'm gonna move into the picks and give  a lil blurb about each game like i started off doing.  lines come from the ny post and the home team is in CAPS.

jets -3 over BILLS (in toronto.  thursday night game.  win)
i got the pick up on twitter about an hour before the game started.  i was shocked to see the jets actually went ahead and won a game in which i picked them.  that made my jet fan friends happy which was cool.  i gotta say though, watching braylon edwards drop a ball thrown directly to him with no defenders withing 10 yards was fairly unsettling.  he's damn lucky they pulled it out.

cowboys -2 over GIANTS
what can i say, i just have no faith in my giants anymore.  like the mets, they had a huge hole (wide receiver) and simply refused to fill it properly.  no one noticed while they played crappy teams at the beginning of the season, but i'll be damned if it's not obvious now.  also like the mets, they've been killed by injuries which has left them weak anywhere they may have been good.  it's one of those years for my sports teams.

broncos -4.5 over CHIEFS
broncos have had a fall from grace themselves, eh?  if this game were in week 6, they'd easily be 14 point favourites.  not so much in week 13. 

STEELERS -14.5 over raiders
this is one of those games in which the steelers probably don't deserve to be 14 point favourites.  i say that but am picking them anyway because the last two times i picked the raiders to cover they fucked me.  home field advantage ain't what it used to be in the nfl, but i'm hoping it nets me a win.

texans over JAGUARS
fuck. this. game.  i don't think there are two teams that have fucked me over more than the jags and the texans.  i thought both would suck, and they did.  until they got good, so i'd pick em.  and they lost.  so i picked against them.  and they won.  or at least it feels that way.  so it makes sense that this game is a pick'em.  at least vegas doesn't know what to make of it either. 

titans +6.5 over COLTS
the colts are smart.  they know better than to try to go undefeated.  they watched the patriots go 18-0 and fail in the super bowl.  they saw the little children in zimbabwe wearing the 19-0 t shirts.  they knew the members of the 1972 dolphins had made their tom brady voodoo dolls (which ultimately jinxed him so bad it cost him his 2008 season).  they know the titans are the new feel good story in the nfl.  so that's why i think peyton manning and his boys are going to take it easy and let tenessee win.   

FALCONS +5.5 over eagles
i hate the eagles.  so while my giants may not be any good, i still get to root for the eagles and cowboys to suck.  what i'd love to bet is the over under of how many times michael vick sees the field.  i'd set it at 7 and take the under.

BENGALS -13 over lions
i should have learned by now not to take the huge spread favourites, but the lions keep screwing me when i pick em.  i hope chad johnson, er, ochocinco runs all over them.

saints -9.5 over REDSKINS
the redskins have fucked me many times too, but the saints are that good.  i think they need to lose too, but i don't think they know they need to lose.

PANTHERS -6 over buccaneers
i hate the panthers, but the bucs sucks.  panthers are at home so i'll pick em to win by a damn touchdown, why not?

rams +9 over BEARS
been a while since i got to tell everyone how much of an ass jay cutler is.  yup, he is.

chargers -13.5 over BROWNS
eric mangini is the worst coach in all of sports.  i hated him and i wasn't even a jets fans.  i hate him now and i'm not even a browns fan.  i laugh my ass off at the fact he named his kid after brett favre only to have favre shit the bed and cause him to get fired.  and he will be again…yup.

SEAHAWKS over 49ers
i actually think the 9ers will win.  with no spread though, i'll default to the home team.  the 9ers have done everything they could to make me look like an idiot this year, so screw em.

vikings -3 over CARDINALS
i don't like favre, but he's been effective.  meanwhile, the cardinals spent the first few weeks sucking and are now trying to be a surprise team again.  i don't think you get to go to the superbowl one year and be a surprise the next.  nope.  that's in the rules somewhere.  besides the madden curse has yet to hit larry fitzgerald.  there's never been two guys on the cover of madden and it already got the guy on the steelers, so maybe he won't get hit, but something tells em he's going to have a finger fall off soon.

patriots -4.5 over DOLPHINS
hmmm evil genius vs a scary looking guy who doesn't know how to manage a clock.  i think i'll take the evil genius.  if the pats are going to step up, they need to do it this week, and i think they will.

ravens +3 over PACKERS
i think the pack will win but baltimore will keep it close. 

and with that goes another week of football.
