so i was surfing around dropping some entrecards today when i saw a post about a fat woman who was upset. (i want to say i saw the story on the world according to sjeltur, but could be wrong…thanks for the inspiration) see, she's too fat to fit into one seat and wanted a second seat for her comfort (as if she hadn't allowed herself one too many comforts in her life already) without being charged. apparently she was under the impression the airline would let her get around being charged as well.
in the end she wound up having to pay for the second seat her fat ass would take up so that she can be hauled from cairns to coolangatta down in australia. the problem came when there was an error and she found the airline (jetstar) had assigned her two seats that weren't even next to each other. ignoring the fact the seats were booked separately and therefor assigned separately; this is, of course, insulting and discriminatory. so she filed a complaint with the anti-discrimination commission queensland.
speaking as someone who isn't exactly skinny (ya might say i could lose a few pounds el oh el, el oh el)…GET OVER IT.
i'm not personally a fan of any sort of "anti-discrimination" practices, but i sure as hell know they should be limited to protecting those who are discriminated against for shit they can't control such as race, gender, sexuality (if you a nature rather than nurture person), and religion (we get that from our parents, most of us don't think about changing). discrimination against people who simply refuse to exercise self control over what they eat (or for that matter exercise at all) should not only be legal, but encouraged.
encouraged you ask? yes.
why are people fat? because they make the conscious decision to have an extra helping of dessert and a nap instead of a piece of fruit and a jog. if the person can't be bothered to motivate his or herself to make healthy decisions, perhaps being publicly ridiculed will help.
…or grow a thicker skin, lord knows you have enough of it.
fat person two seats
mouth is full wallet empty
don't bitch exercise

I imagine the airline now charges extra to make sure a fat person’s two seats are actually next to each other.
I am typically on the thin side. But have recently been dealing with a health issue that has at times required be to be on prednisone – one time, the doctor put me on it and never made any attempt to lower it or get me off of it. Prednisone is known for giving a person a voracious appetite.. and boy did I get one. I gained from my lowest point 113 to 153… it was horrible! I don’t say much about overweight people any more.
Thanx for referring to my site…
And yep – I am agreeing with you…. I am just a bit milder in my words…
amen, well said.
if I only take up half of the seat do I get a discount? hell no.
@ dan well considering most airlines charge for the privilege of picking your seat they sort of are charging for that
@ judi i hope your medical issues are taken care of. you say you’re typically thin…so you make the right choices. the people i have a problem with are the people who don’t and then claim to be discriminated against.
do you want to be in the middle seat next to a person who needed but wouldn’t pay for 2 because it’s embarrassing for them? i sure as hell don’t.
@ sjeltur i’m one for brutal honesty…sometimes it hurts but it’s never not true.
@ stacie no discount, but you do get all that extra room! i for one am jealous.
Ah well – I am Dutch = and my american and canadian friends always consider me “brutal honest”…. With my writing I seem to be a bit mild…. (overthinking my writing)…. but sometimes……
I’ve known a few people who were “brutally honest.” Its kind’ve refreshing to be around them, but only in small amounts. After awhile I started cutting down my average amount of time with them.
